چکیده

A new method for coding generic audio signals at 64 kbit/s in the 20-15000 Hz bandwidth with a low delay is presented. It combines subband coding, Low Delay CELP algorithm and cascaded lterbanks. Our earlier works [1] show that, when using an equal bit rate on each subband, the resulting audio quality was not appropriate. We propose a new technique based on lattice quantization to avoid the search complexity of the statistical vector quantization. It allows an adaptive bit rate allocation in each subband. Experimental results assessing the validity of the proposed method are also presented.

Very low delay and high quality coding of 20 hz-15 khz speech signals at 64 kbit/s

In this paper, an algorithm for coding 20 Hz 15 kHz speech signals at 64 kbit/s with a very low delay (frame of 0.16 ms) is presented. To achieve a quality near to transparency, we propose adapting the Low-Delay CELP coder [1] to the 15 kHz bandwidth and suggest a new noise shaping method based on a psychoacoustic model. In this way we take advantage of linear predictive coding and masking prop...

A design of transform coder for both speech and audio signals at 1 bit/sample

This paper proposes a speech and audio coder which operates at 1 bit/sample, namely an 8 kbit/s coder for 8 kHz sampling or a 16 kbit/s coder for 16 kHz sampling. The basic structure is inherited from a TwinVQ (Transform domain Weighted Interleave Vector Quantization) high-quality audio coding scheme. Periodical component extraction scheme is newly added to the quantization of MDCT coe cients. ...

Low delay coding of wideband audio (20 Hz-15 kHz) at 64 kbps

A 64 kbps coder of wideband (15 kHz) monophonic audio signals is described. Its structure is based on the transform coded excitation scheme, adopted to 7 kHz band signals. Significant modifications are proposed, that yield the reduction of delay while keeping an almost transparent quality of speech and music, equivalent to that provided by the MPEG1, layer II audio standard at the same bit rate...

Perceptual Coding of Narrowband Audio Signals at 8 Kbit / S *

This paper proposes a VQ-based transform coding scheme for audio signals ( sampled at 8 kHz) at very low bit rates. This coder uses a new perceptually based distortion measure, which takes into account the energy of audible noise, in both training the codebooks and selecting the best codew ords.An adaptive bit allocation strategy based on the distribution of the energy of the transform coe cien...

A Nearly-transparent Low Delay Audio Coder

Nowadays, it does not exist an audio coding standard for getting nearly-transparent quality with low delay. The standard ISO-MPEG is profusely used in audio for getting high quality [1]. It uses a perceptual model that requires high frequency precision and introduces high delay. However, in applications where the delay is a critical parameter, e.g. when is important to use a feedback channel, t...
